VOLUNTEER AWARDS 2026
SCAA recognizes outstanding volunteers through its annual volunteer awards. These awards celebrate individuals who have made significant contributions to the archival field within Saskatchewan, either through their volunteer work with the SCAA or through their broader contributions to the archival profession.
STEVIE HORN
Special Collections Librarian at the Saskatoon Public Library, previously worked at the U of S Archives & Special Collections
Stevie has been a long time and dedicated member of SCAA, being a steady and reliable presence from 2015 to present – as either a committee or Board member, and even Vice President for several of those terms.
Notably, Stevie chaired the Diversity Working Group, where a Diversity Plan was developed along with a resource of comprehensive Directory of Organizations. As she is passionate about building bridges between Indigenous communities and settler archives and archivists, Stevie was instrumental in the evolution and creation of the Diversity Working Group to form the Indigenous Working Group.
In addition, she led the Public Awareness Committee for many years, contributing countless hours of assessing, assembling, communicating, hiring editors and photographers, researching publishing options and organizing the bulk of the Unforgettable Book Project.
Stevie hasn’t just given us her time—she’s given us her passion for heritage, and that is why she is so very deserving of this Volunteer Award. She has accepted awards several times in the past on behalf of recipients that could not attend the meetings, but now Stevie can accept her very own award!
JEFF O’BRIEN
City of Saskatoon Archivist
Jeff O’Brien was born in Saskatoon and raised in Regina where despite his best efforts to the contrary, he received an undergraduate degree in Canadian history. He went on to earn a master’s degree in archival studies from the University of British Columbia before returning home to Saskatchewan where he eventually settled down as the City of Saskatoon Archivist in 1997.
As the City of Saskatoon Archivist, Jeff believes in bringing history out of the archives and into the community. He is a regular contributor to Saskatoon HOME and Prairies North magazines, and to the Saskatoon History Review. He is frequently asked to speak to community groups, city classrooms, and at local events. He can also be seen and heard on radio and TV, talking about the history of his beloved adopted city. In 2023, he was awarded the Queen’s Jubilee medal in recognition of his work in this area.
It is impossible to talk about SCAA without talking about Jeff. As one of our most recognizable and dedicated volunteers, Jeff has spent countless hours and years bridging the gap between yesterday and today. And he does it with infectious enthusiasm that inspires those around him. Jeff has become a trusted anchor for local history, and because of his dedication, that history flourishes, ensuring that our community's story will be told for generations to come.

COMMUNITY USE AWARD 2026
The Community Use Award was introduced 4 years ago to recognize excellence in the use of archives by non-archivists in Saskatchewan. It recognizes the employment of archival materials in furthering research, opinion, analysis, and artistic endeavor. With great pleasure SCAA introduces this year's recipients: Prud’homme Multicultural Providence Museum
For more than a decade, volunteers and summer staff of the Prud’homme Multicultural Providence Museum have been working to transform a collection of dozens of boxes of materials acquired over many years into an archive that can better serve the public and be preserved for future access.
