Workshops

The SCAA's education program is an important part of our mandate. Workshop topics have included copyright, arrangement and description of archival holdings, digitization for archives, managing audio-visual records, the preservation of historic photographs, the preservation of optical and magnetic media (modern information carriers), and public awareness for archives.

Maximizing Media – Archivists to Valued Assets Workshop

Tuesday March 26, 2024, 9am - 12pm

 SCAA will be presenting a workshop with Nowshad (Shad) Ali, CFRE, who is the President and CEO of On Purpose Leadership Inc., a company whose mission is to help people, communities and organizations in the effective pursuit and attainment of purpose without compromise of core values. Shad has several certifications in various human behaviour dynamics sciences and has over 25 years experience working on high performance, leadership, growth and advancement of individuals, teams and organizations. 

This session will explore key strategies and tactics that ensure Archivists are valued as key assets in building and sustaining positive public profile. It will explore:

  • What media are looking for?
  • What is news?
  • How to get and sustain attention
  • Traditional Media and social media
  • Dynamic Interviews
  • Internal Advocacy

It will be a dynamic session and give you opportunities for active engagement. Yes, that means roll up your sleeves and try some stuff!  Bring your questions to enhance the value of the session! 

Format:

This workshop will be using Zoom Video-conference. Participants will be provided a link a few days before the session.

Target Audience:

This course will be of particular interest to member institutions and individuals who are responsible for communications in their settings.

Basic Digitization Workshop

The SCAA is pleased to offer a one-day workshop for free that introduces participants to the basic archival functions of digitization of archival material, its preservation and storage. Discussion will also touch on the acquisition of “born-digital” items by Archival Institutions as well as reasons for digitizing material.
